This is where we can temporarily put a message or promotion

What makes us a Pop Choir

The Collaboration Choir is an adult pop choir but what does ‘pop’ for us actually mean? The Oxford dictionary states that it’s “music appealing to the popular taste, including rock and pop and also soul, reggae, rap, and dance music”.

We’re definitely more in the pop, soul genre (for now). However that could all soon change, as we’ve had over 100 song suggestions from our choir members which will slowly make their way into the repertoire. We plan to take more suggestions each term so any members’ favourite song could appear in the future. It’s time to collaborate!

Singing With A Pop Choir

Singing with us means you’ll be learning some songs you may have heard of but occasionally some you haven’t. For us choosing the songs is all about timing; what’s going on in the world or with us. We think about the message a song conveys and how it will make those singing it and any audience watching it ‘feel’. Our versions of pop songs are reinvented adding harmonies and splitting the melody across our various vocal parts: Lower, Middle or Upper. You may have heard of the song we’re learning that week but you won’t know The Collaboration Choir version. That way we’re all in it together – finding the CC (Collaboration Choir) way – lyric sheet to hand.

Type of Pop Songs We Cover

So far we’ve covered everything from Womack & Womack (80’s) and McFly (2015) to Labbi Siffre (1975) and George Ezra (2022). The songs have had various themes like empowerment and moving on, finding your voice, thinking of others and love – it’s been deep! If you ever want to suggest a song, just ask one of the team where to send it.

How can you benefit from being a member of our pop choir?

Singing is beneficial to your health. Time for yourself is important too. Adding popular songs to that mix, tunes you can identify with and relax to make the whole experience even more enjoyable. Some weeks your toes will be tapping, on other occasions you’ll be moved to tears. Each song has its story and in rehearsal we relate to each song’s message trying to find our own “version of events” – as Emeli Sande once said.

“To help people find their voice is a joy. I love the journey people go on. I give them the tools & then watch them thrive under my direction – it’s very exciting & often emotional!”
