Meet Jennie

Exuberant, inspirational and often sporting a fabulously flamboyant hair colour, Jennie leads The Collaboration Choir in Derby & Nottingham with passion and humour! A professional singer and pianist, who has notched up more than a decade of experience in the music industry, she loves to bring the community together through uplifting song. Jennie, whose all-time favourite singers include queen of the heartbreak ballad, Adele, the legendary Stevie Nicks and girlpower OGs The Spice Girls, has been leading choirs for many years, as well as working as a vocal coach and professional singer for weddings and events.
Mum to a musical four -year-old and an attention-seeking West Highland Terrier, Benny (who has a penchant for bow ties), Jennie joined The Collaboration Choir family in September 2024. Her reason for joining? The ever-inspiring founder Carrie, who she describes as ‘amazing, passionate and a go-getter’. The pair have been friends for a decade, singing together in Carrie’s a capella group, Vocally Bespoke, and appearing on BBC1 show Pitch Battle alongside the likes of Gareth Malone and Kelis, no less! Heading up a wonderfully diverse choir, Jennie says the most rewarding aspect is seeing the ‘lightbulb moment’ when everything clicks into place on a song arrangement. “The power of a room that’s all singing together, when you can feel this amazing energy and buzz, is absolutely brilliant!” she enthuses. “The room lifts me as much as the members, and we have a lot of laughs!” Seeing new members flourish, and marvelling at their ‘new-found confidence which feeds out into the rest of their lives’ is another highlight. Jennie’s choir members say her best quality, besides her wicked sense of humour, is the way singing under her incredible tutelage always makes them feel uplifted and ready to take on the world! Jennie particularly relishes the opportunity to transform mindsets, helping members who may feel insecure in their singing abilities to not only find their voice but discover the pure, heart-soaring joy of performing as one rousing group! Growing up in a vibrant musical household, Jennie remembers wall-to-wall family singsongs, with festive favourite Feliz Navidad never failing to get the family dancing around the living room. Tinkering on the family piano as a tot, the prodigious Jennie began lessons aged four. School days saw her master the flute and piccolo, performing in the windband and jazz ensemble, though her music teachers weren’t exactly encouraging. “My piano teacher told me I’d never be any good at piano because my hands were too small and my music teacher said I wouldn’t be able to play piano and sing at the same time. . .and now I do both for a career!” she giggles, having had the last laugh. Whilst studying for a degree in Popular Music Production, Jennie discovered a flair for radio – not surprising, considering her gregarious personality! Appointed producer on a breakfast show at a community station in Norfolk, she got to interview iconic bands like The Stereophonics, but despite the allure of radio, the magnetic pull of music proved stronger.
